How you can help Stop the Sludge?
The proposed sewage sludge processing plant at Quonset could have lasting impacts on North Kingstown and surrounding communities. While legal challenges and regulatory reviews are important, public involvement will play a critical role in determining the project's future. History has shown that informed and engaged citizens can influence major decisions affecting their communities.

By working together, residents can help ensure that public health, environmental protection, and quality of life remain top priorities. The following action steps outline ways individuals can contribute to the effort to oppose the proposed facility.

ACTION STEP 1 (Periodically): Share important information and news about the sewage sludge processing plant from reliable sources with your friends and neighbors on social media or in-person.  Consider displaying the red and black "Stop Sludge" image on your preferred social media page as well. The image at the bottom of this screen can be SAVED or COPIED and PASTED for that purpose. Â

ACTION STEP 3 (Estimated August 15, 2026 -- April 1, 2027): Offer written or verbal testimony during the periodic hearings of the Joint Legislative Commission to study how Rhode Island may dispose of its sewage sludge waste going forward. Templates to be provided at a later date.
ACTION STEP 4 (April 15th 2027-- June 15th of 2027): Support legislation to Stop the Sludge along with reforms that place public health and community well-being at the center of siting decisions and proposed regulatory rules governing sewage sludge disposal facilities.  More information to be annoucned at a later date.Â
